We had a great first week of school! We spent the week getting to know each other, learning about first grade, and practicing our routines. Students seem to be enjoying their desks, wobble stools, and making new friends! We have a really great class and I'm excited for all of the fun things to come!
Thank you for all of the classroom supplies! We have lots of crayons, glue sticks, wipes, markers, and pencils to get us through the year! You all have been doing a great job sending in the red folders each day, too! I am doing my best to make sure that all red folders, water bottles, and lunch boxes make it home, but occasionally they are forgotten and will have a "sleepover" at school!
Here are some pictures from the first week of school! I am still working on getting all students first day photos (oops!)
If you do not see your child's first day photo, I am going to take some this week! The first day and week are super busy and it's hard to get through all the pictures!
We also made some self portraits (with masks!) Can you spot your child?
We read the story Chrysanthemum and did some activities with our names!
We did a fun "math about me" page.
Next week, we will continue getting to know each other. We will discuss what we hope to learn or get better at in first grade and write about "Hopes and Dreams" for first grade. We will then discuss how we can help everyone achieve their "Hopes and Dreams" by making classroom agreements (or rules) to follow. We will also get started with Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, and our Everyday Math lessons! We will be working on building up our stamina and independence!
Some reminders...
- I sent a Scholastic Book Order home on Thursday. If you'd like to order, you can order online using our class code HNCFV. It is due by September 10th.
- Please send your child to school each day with a snack (nut free!!) and a non-spill water bottle.
- Please make sure that your child has a clean mask that fits their face each day! It is also a great idea to have a couple of extra masks in your child's backpack in the event that they get lost (it happens!), wet, or dirty!
Please bookmark the blog and check for semi-regular updates! I will try to update every week, but sometimes it gets busy and I might miss a week or two or three!
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at anytime kgreene@kitteryschools.com.
